I AM
Kali Hopkins
I am currently a junior at the University of Maine at Farmington. I am currently enrolled in the practicum block this semester as a Secondary Education major with a concentration in English and a minor in Psychology.
On campus I currently work at Everyone’s Resource depot, which is a store where students and community members can buy craft and school supplies for discount prices. Everything within the store is donated to us and this allows for us to sell our items at a low price. During the holiday seasons we plan different crafts for children to do if they come into the store.
"Involved with four different clubs on campus..."
I am also a part of three different clubs on campus. The first is ACE, which stands for Association for Campus Entertainment. We plan different events on campus such as musicians, comedians, magicians, speakers, the school dances, and many other opportunities for students to be involved. I am the vice president of this club and will continue to be on e-board next semester. The second club I am a part of is the Psychology Club. I am president of this club and hopefully will continue to be president next semester. In the Psych club we do different activities like make stress balls, glitter jars, watch videos about different psychologists or illnesses. We are currently trying to plan a trip to a conference. I am also in a group called APO or Alpha Phi Omega. It is a community service based co-ed fraternity. We do a lot of different service projects here on campus and with the community.
"In 2018 alone I have attended two education conferences."
In 2018 alone I have attended two education conferences. The first one was ACTEM. I had the privilege to present at this conference to fellow colleges in the education field. While attending this conference I was able to attend multiple educational classes before I had to present. The second conference I was able to attend was the MEA conference. There I met fellow students and other teachers/educators. I attended multiple educational classes and met some amazing speakers. I was also able to talk to an amazing person who helped me figure out some information about graduate school. I had been struggling with some information and she had cleared that all up for me.
"...read over 2,000 books..."
Being an English concentration is one of my favorite parts about being a future educator. I love all kinds of literature and cannot wait to teach it to students. I want to be able to inspire them and help them fall in love with literature like I have. Over the past couple of years I have read over 2,000 books and that number just keeps on rising.
