Introduction to the Standard
Standard:
The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to document learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s on-going planning and instruction.
Indicator:
6 (g) Effectively uses multiple and appropriate types of assessment data to identify each student’s learning needs and to develop differentiated learning experiences.
Interpretation:
Throughout the course of the semester there will be multiple forms of assessment in order to see where students are at. If they are below level then the educator can adjust the assignments in the class in order to meet the students needs. If there are some kind issues or the students are struggling then the assignments can be changed in some way in order so students to excel.
Introduction to the Artifact:
This artifact is stage two of a unit I designed based of of Animal Farm. Stage two in Understanding By Design is where you outline all the assessments for the unit.
Rationale:
In my stage two I have a pre-assessment on the website Flipgrid focused for my GRASP assignment. I gave students two different options that they could choose from. The first was to describe what it was like to live through the Russian Revolution. The second option was for the students to find out how the Russian Revolution still effects the world today.
On the pre-assessment if students are at level then I will continue with the unit as planned. If a majority of students are below level then I will be able to teach what the students need to know or I will be able to adjust the lesson according to where the students are. If only a few students are below level then I will either make accommodations for them in the course work, or have them meet with me after class in order to get them caught up and on level. As the unit progresses I will use multiple forms of formative and summative assessments (such as debates with the class, black out poetry lessons, essay writing, theme analysis, etc.) in order to see where students are and adjust my plans as I need to.
